Questions
The sensible questions (and two about Debs)
Why is it called Debs?
It's named after our founder's best friend, the most organised parent at the school gate. Everyone in the WhatsApp group asks her what's happening. Debs the app does what she does: reads the school emails, knows the dates and tells you what's needed. So now everyone can have a Debs.
Is the real Debs going to read my emails?
No, she's far too busy organising the teacher's present. Debs the app reads only the school senders you choose, and doesn't keep the emails.
Does it read all my emails?
No. You pick the school senders, and it only reads emails from those. Everything else in your inbox is left alone.
Do you keep my emails?
No. Each email and its attachments are read, the dates and to-dos are pulled out, and the email is dropped.
What about the letters attached to emails?
It opens them. Letters attached as PDFs or pictures are read along with the email, so a form hidden in an attachment still makes the list.
I have children at different schools. Does it cope?
Yes. Each child has their own school, primary or secondary, and the evening list shows each child's bag separately.
Which schools does it know?
Every state and private school in the UK, from the official lists. When the first family at a school joins, Debs reads the school's own website for its term dates, INSET days, teachers, uniform and clubs, and checks it every week for changes.
Can my partner and the grandparents see it too?
Yes. Invite your partner or a co-parent with full access, and grandparents or a childminder with view-only access, so everyone sees the same calendar and to-dos without you forwarding anything.
My partner gets the club emails, not me. Does that work?
Yes. Add them as someone who forwards you emails. Debs reads only the emails they forward on, as if they came from the club or school itself, and never opens their other emails.
What about clubs and activities outside school?
Those too: football, swimming, music lessons, Scouts. Debs reads their emails, puts sessions on the calendar and adds what to pack to the evening bag list. It also suggests new senders every couple of weeks, in case a new club has started emailing you.
Is there an app?
Yes: Debs goes on your phone's home screen and opens like any other app, with reminders. On Android, open Debs in Chrome and tap Install (or the menu, then Add to Home screen). On iPhone, open it in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. Nothing extra to pay. Debs is coming to the App Store and Google Play too.
How much does it cost?
Your first month is free: you add your card, and nothing is taken until the month ends (cancel before then and you pay nothing). Then Debs is £5.49 a month for most families (2 logins, for both parents), and Debs Family is £9.99 a month for up to 5 logins, grandparents included. Both are unlimited for everyday family use. If you'd rather fill in the calendar yourself, Debs Diary is £3.49 a month. Extra people are a one-off £4.99 each.
